Community Gaming Grants in Quesnel support Human and Social Services

Six local human and social services non-profit organizations have received $130,000 in funding from the provincial government through the Community Gaming Grant program.

“Community gaming grants help local organizations, including human and social services providers, make life better for residents and families in the Cariboo and throughout British Columbia,” says Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes. “

“The Rotary Club of Quesnel is very pleased to qualify for funding through BC Gaming,” says Rebecca Beuschel, Club President of the Rotary Club of Quesnel. “This funding will allow us to continue to give back to groups in our community who rely on us for financial support to maintain or initiate their activities. Rotary, both locally and internationally, supports many worthy causes and this funding strengthens our position as a service club to continue providing this support”

The latest Quesnel-based organizations that have received gaming grants are:

· Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel has received $62,000 for their Mentoring Program, Monthly Activities Program, and Community Teen in School Mentoring Program.

· BPSA Scouts – 14th Dragon Lake has received $7,000 towards their scouting program.

· The Rotary Club of Quesnel has received $19,000 for their Community Donations Program.

· The Cariboo Hoofbeats Assisted Activity Program Society has received $13,000 for their Therapeutic Riding and Education Activities.

· B P Service Association has received $14,500 towards their traditional scouting program.

· The Royal Canadian Legion Cariboo Branch #94 has received $14,500 towards the Community Donations Program and Special Donation for Veteran Tommy Moffat.

This latest round of funding is through the Human and Social Services intake. Grants through this intake are used for programs that significantly contribute to the quality of life in the community, including assisting the disadvantaged or distressed, promoting health, or enhancing opportunities for youth.

Every year, the provincial government approves $135 million in gaming grants that benefit over 5,000 local non-profit organizations that serve communities throughout British Columbia.
