From the BC RCMP:
On Friday July 7, 2017 at approximately 4:00 pm the Quesnel RCMP were alerted to several wild fires burning south of Kersley BC. RCMP officers were deployed and located several fires burning on both the East and West sides of the Fraser River as well as Highway 97 near the Alexandria First Nations reserve. Some of the wild fires have turned into interface fires.
Although there has been no official evacuation order, police are conducting tactical evacuations advising residents of the potential risks and asking them to leave their homes at this time, for their safety.
The Ministry of Forests have forest fire crews on scene who are attacking the fire.
An Emergency reception centre has been set up at the Quesnel and District Arts and Recreation Centre (Quesnel Aquatic Centre) located at 500 North Star Road in Quesnel. Anyone displaced from their home due to the wild fires in the Alexandria area are asked to register at that location and will be provided further information at that location.
Quesnel RCMP would like to the thank those who have assisted in ensuring their friends and neighbours were safely removed from their homes.
