2018 Nomination Period - Day 1 of 10

Today - the Chief Election Officers' or their Deputy for the Districts of 100 Mile House/Wells, Cities of Quesnel/Williams Lake, Cariboo Regional District and School Districts #27/#28 (Cariboo-Chilcotin/Quesnel) can formally begin to receive completed nomination packages for the elected position of Mayor, Councillor, Electoral Area Director and School Trustee, starting at 9am today - Tuesday, September 4th, 2018 until 4pm sharp! on Friday, September 14th, 2018 EXCLUDING the weekend of Saturday/Sunday, September 8th/9th, 2018

For information on relating to the 2018 Local Elections such as candidate information, voting days, etc., including contact information in order to make an appointment to visit the Chief Election Officer or their Deputy for the Local Governments or School Districts' to submit your completed nomination package - please see links below:

Later today - I will be visiting the Cariboo Regional District's Deputy Chief Election Officer to formally file my Electoral Area 'D' Director nomination papers for re-election ...

The incumbents that are running again for the 5 Local Governments (Wells, Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House and Cariboo Regional District) are likely to have their nomination papers completed/signed off by the local Chief Election Officer or their Deputy by the end of this week as the following week, many of them will be attending the 2018 or 115th Convention of the Union of BC Municipalities from September 10-14 in Whistler, BC and won't have time to do so prior to the 4pm, Sept 14th, 2018 deadline to submit their completed nomination papers

For those seeking re-election or election for the 1st time - best of luck and to those who are retiring from political life - the people of the Cariboo-Chilcotin thank you for your public service, no matter who long you have served and wish you the very best in your future endeavours...

As of this morning - the following individuals have publicly confirmed their intention (either through social or local media) to seek local elected office, as follows:

District of Wells (elect 1 Mayor and 4 Councillors) - unknown at this time

City of Quesnel (elect 1 Mayor and 6 Councillors): 

Incumbents -- Mayor Bob Simpson (also current Cariboo-Chilcotin Regional Hospital District Board Chair) and Councillor Ron Paull -- to both seek re-election

Challengers - Fritz Wyssen (for a Councillor seat)

Unknown - Councillors Scott Elliott, Laurey-Anne Roodenburg and Sushil Thapar

Board of Education (SD28 - Quesnel) (elect 7 School Trustees at large)- unknown at this time

Board of Education (SD27 - Cariboo/Chilcotin) (elect 1 School Trustee per Area with 7 School Trustee Electoral Areas in total):

Trustee Electoral Areas 1, 3 and 7 - Linda Martens, Willow MacDonald, and Bruce Baptiste - re-election plans unknown (Areas 1&3 - CRD Areas H/L & District of 100 Mile House and Area 7 - Chilcotin)

Trustee Electoral Areas 2, 5 and 6 - Tanya Guenther, Sheila Boehm and Brice O'Neill - will not seek re-election (Area 2 - Lac La Hache/108 Mile; Area 5 - WL Fringe and Area 6 - City of WL)

Trustee Electoral Area 4 (150 Mile - Horsefly-Likely) - currently vacant

City of Williams Lake (Elect 1 Mayor and 6 Councillors):

Incumbents - Mayor Walt Cobb and Councillors Jason Ryll, Craig Smith, Scott Nelson and Ivan Bonnell - all to seek re-election

Challengers - Micheal Jones, Dave Moore and Sheila Boehm (all seeking a Councillor position)

District of 100 Mile House (elect 1 Mayor and 4 Councillors):

Incumbents - Mayor Mitch Campsall - to seek re-election

Unknown - Councillors Bill Hadden, Spence Henderson, Ralph Fossum and Dave Mingo

Cariboo Regional District (elect 1 Director per Electoral Area with 12 Electoral Areas in total):

Area A - Incumbent Director Ted Armstrong to retire; current Area A Alternate Director Mary Sjostrom seeks to succeed Director Armstrong

Area B - Incumbent Director Jerry Bruce retiring; no announced candidate(s) to date

Area C - Incumbent Director John Massier (current Cariboo RD Board Vice-Chair) to seek re-election

Area D - Incumbent Director Steve Forseth to seek re-election

Area E - Incumbent Director Angie Delainey to seek re-election.

Area F - Incumbent Director Joan Sorley to retire. Brice O'Neill and Shannon Rerie are both seeking the Area 'F' Director position

Area G - Incumbent Director Al Richmond (current Cariboo-Chilcotin Regional Hospital District Board Vice-Chair) to seek re-election

Area H - Incumbent Director Margo Wagner (current Cariboo RD Board Chair) to seek re-election

Area I - Incumbent Director Dylan Cash retiring; former Area I Director Jim Glassford (2008-2014) is seeking to return to his former elected position

Area J - Incumbent Director Roger William has yet to publicly say if he'll seek re-election or retire

Area K - Incumbent Director Betty Anderson to seek re-election

Area L - Incumbent Director Brian Coakley to seek re-election
