Special WL Council Highlights - Nov 16th mtg

Present: Mayor W. Cobb; Councillors Boehm, Bonnell, Brenner, Nelson, Ryll, Smith

Meeting called to order at 6pm

Business:

1) Council appointed Councillor Ivan Bonnell to the Cariboo Regional District Board of Directors' as the City of Williams Lake Director for the remainder of the 2020/2021 term and the 2021/2022 term and re-appointed Councillor Jason Ryll as the City’s Alternate Director to the Cariboo Regional District Board.  

CONTRARY TO THE MOTION: Councillors Ryll, Boehm and Smith

2) Council endorsed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Cariboo Regional District and The City of Williams Lake to provide Emergency Support Services to residents within the Region for 2022

3) Council endorsed an application by the City of Williams Lake on behalf of the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) to SPARC BC’s Accessible Parking Awareness Month Grant program, funded through the federal Accessible Canada Social Development Partnership Program and the Provincial Accessibility Secretariat, for $500 toward hosting an event to celebrate the different ways that communities have been successful in advocating for accessible parking or taking steps towards an accessible community

4) Council received a letter from the Hon. Rob Fleming - BC's Transportation/Infrastructure Minister regarding Dog Creek Road landslides within the municipally owned portion of Dog Creek Road  and further Dog Creek Road within the municipal boundary be maintained in the interim and Staff bring forward a report on options to put forward a DFAA (Disaster Financial Assistance) application for repairs to Dog Creek Road, as suggested in the Minister's letter to Williams Lake City Council

5) Council received a letter from Roy and Evelyn Buxbaum, The Daily Stash, regarding a request for business license fee reduction and directed Staff to bring forward an amendment to the Business License Bylaw to reduce cannabis business license fees to the equivalent of liquor establishments of $324 annually in time for January 1st, 2022 

Mayor Cobb expressed his sympathies to communities in Southern BC who are dealing with land or rock slides as a result of the recent "atmospheric river weather event" and pleaded with the community to be mindful of others while grocery shopping and that there are still plenty of options to getting supplies to Williams Lake (shipping from Alberta into BC)... 

Motion to proceed to a Closed (In-Camera) Council Meeting:

RESOLVED -- That Council proceed into a Closed Meeting. following adjournment of the Open City Council meeting, pursuant to the Community Charter, Sections 90 ( 1) (e) the acquisition, disposition or expropriation of land or improvements, if the Council considers that disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm the interest of the municipality, and (k) negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at their preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interest of the municipality if they were held in public.
