Cariboo RD Committee of the Whole Highlights - Feb 8th meeting

Present:

Chair M. Wagner/Vice Chair M. Neufeld and Directors Sjostrom, Bachmeier, Massier, Forseth, LeBourdais (via phone), Richmond, Glassford, Pare, Anderson, De Vries, Paull, Rathor and Pinkney 

Meeting called to order at 1:30pm

The Chair recognized that the meeting was taking place on the traditional, unceded territory of the Williams Lake First Nation within Secwepemculecw

Meeting Agenda adopted

Minutes of the Committee of the Whole meeting held November 8th, 2023 were received/adopted

Business:

The Committee discussed the following matters:

* 2024 Communications and Engagement Feedback Survey

* Cariboo Regional District Economic Development Services Merge Bylaw No. 5398, 2024

* BC's "Interior Forest Sector Renewal" program/future of Forestry in BC

* Materials in Cariboo Regional District Libraries 

Following Committee discussions -- the Committee agreed to the following Resolutions:

i) That merging of Sub-Regional Economic Development Functions not be further pursued at this time

CONTRARY TO THE MOTION: Directors Sjostrom and Bachmeier (Areas "A" and "B")

ii) That representatives of the forest industry (Tolko, West Fraser, Atlantic Power, Tsi Del Del)  be invited to an upcoming Committee of the Whole meeting to speak about their long-term strategies for forestry in the Region

iii) That an item come to the Feb 29th, 2024 Board Meeting regarding putting forward a Cariboo Regional District submission regarding Possible Amendments to the Land Act (BC)
