From Welcome to Williams Lake:
Interior Health has announced that an Invitation to Bid has been issued to pre-qualified general contractors as the next step in the exciting Deni House renovation project in Williams Lake.
"The reopening of Deni House is something our community has worked very hard to achieve. These 28 additional beds will ensure that seniors in Williams Lake receive high-quality care and I'm pleased the renovations are moving forward on schedule," says Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett.
The Project Team has been working on detailed designs for the renovation. Tender close is set for April 21st, with construction anticipated to commence in early May.
“The Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District is pleased to be providing the funding for the Deni House renovation project,” said Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District Chair Rick Mumford. “Seniors in the central Cariboo and Chilcotin have wanted Deni House re-opened for some time. This will be welcome news for our seniors who are anxiously awaiting construction to commence.”
Upon completion, Deni House will reopen with 28 new beds following a commitment from the RHD to fully fund the renovations required to reopen the top floor to accommodate residential care.
“We would like to once again recognize the Regional Hospital District for its willingness to provide capital funding for this important investment in seniors’ care in the Cariboo,” said Norman Embree, Board Chair of Interior Health.
The necessary renovation work includes:
· Redeveloping the current rooms into new single and triple patient rooms. Ceiling lifts will be installed over each residential bed
· Upgrades to resident washrooms for handicapped accessibility
· Replacement of outdated Nurse Call and Fire Alarm systems
· Upgrades and/or repair to the central cooling and air handling systems
· Upgrades to data and telephone lines for wireless capabilities
· Minor renovations to other areas of the facility
Construction is expected to be complete this fall, following which the transition process to move residents into their new home will begin.
Interior Health would like to remind residents that the Adult Day Services Program will continue to operate at Deni House.
Of the 28 new beds, nine beds will be designated short-stay. Two of these nine short stay beds are designated for palliative care, while the remainder are for convalescent and respite care.
In 2007, Interior Health opened 44 beds at the new Williams Lake Seniors Village. The new beds in Deni House will provide capacity for residential care in Williams Lake for years to come.
