Quesnel & District Leisure Services will partner with the Quesnel Community and District Arts Council to host the annual Arts & Culture Day at the Quesnel and District Arts & Recreation Centre on Saturday April 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
This free event has a green theme with art activities such as mural painting, water colour flowers, wind chimes, dance, music, nature mosaics, puppet making, origami, clay work, face painting, seed planting, community gardening, environmental information and more.
"Arts and Culture Day is a popular family event; everyone has fun trying out the different art projects," said Elizabeth Waldorf, the Arts Program Coordinator at the Quesnel and District Arts and Recreation Centre. "With this year's green theme, there will be lots of natural and recycled materials incorporated. The face painting is extremely popular with the kids and the whole afternoon is an opportunity to dive in and try your hand at a variety of art forms.
Arts and Culture Day provides families the opportunity to find creative activities they can do together. The materials are either free or very affordable.
"The amount of fun and experimentation is limitless," added Waldorf. "Last year we spray painted designs on the ground outside and the kids lay pebbles along the pattern - this created a really interesting environmental bas relief (low relief sculptural effect)."
