WL Council Business - Nov 6th

For those in Williams Lake - your City Council will consider the following noteworthy items on Tuesday:

a) Next Steps for City of WL CAO - Council is set to award a contract to engage a search firm to assist them with the hiring of a Chief Administrative Officer.  It would be expected that, either by now or in the immediate future, Council will set the parameters as to what they are looking for in the next CAO

As of this writing, the exact firm to be hired is not known

b) RCMP Costs going up -- I am informed that Council will deliberate the fact that the municipal (City of WL) portion of the RCMP Contract will be going up by $600,000 for next year.  Council, as in previous cases, has no say as to whether or not it accepts the $600,000 cost increase unless it gives notice of its' intention to form a municipal police department

c) Changes to the Sprinkler Regulation Bylaw -- Council will give three readings to an amendment bylaw to amend the Sprinkler Regulation Bylaw which will, if adopted, state the following:

“Lawn watering shall only be permitted during the hours of 12:00 AM to 10:00
AM and then 6:00 PM to 11:59 PM"

The usual even/odd address requirement will remain in place

d) WL Council being asked by the Board of Education (SD #27) to endorse their resolution (Motion) to demand Victoria to ensure adequate funding for schools for K-12

e) New Debt Management Policy -- read here.  Keep in mind that if the $11 million borrowing for the local Complex goes through in 2013, City of WL taxpayers' will be on the hook for debt totalling $27 million

f) WL Council being asked to approve 'Santa Claus Parade' on Nov 24th -- read here

Pretty sure any debt incurred for any new pool option would be CRD debt not City debt.
I know its all the same taxpayer but the City's direct debt load would not be increased.

Thanks for your comment and yes, the City's direct debt load would still remain at roughly $16 million although, as you point out, City taxpayers (if the Complex $11 million debt is approved in 2013) would be responsible for $27 million in debt between CRD sponsored and City direct debt
