Editor's Note -- tonight's prelim result of approval for the West Chilcotin Search and Rescue (SAR) Function by a vote of 34-33 surprised even me, given a SAR Service supported by taxpayers is generally a no-brainer . When the Board considered the matter, I hesitated to proceed to referendum on this Function at the time the Regional Board deliberated on this item, but only agreed to do so after it was determined that there was no secure way to have a vote done by counter-petition for only those who would pay into this Function
This result tells me (subject to confirmation this upcoming week) that the Regional Board will have to proceed very carefully with further initiatives that imposes on taxpayers....
