Clr Thapar doesn't like a Code of Conduct

At last night's Quesnel COW Meeting - Quesnel Councillor Sushil Thapar didn't mince words on a proposed Code of Conduct/Ethics for the City of Quesnel Council.  Read more on that story here while you can read the draft Code of Conduct/Ethics for the City of Quesnel here

The proposed Code of Conduct/Ethics policy for Quesnel is based upon the adopted Code of Conduct/Ethics for the Cariboo Regional District.  The Cariboo RD policy still doesn't have unanimous support as current Area D Director Deb Bischoff steadfastly refuses to sign-off on the policy as she believes firmly that a Code of Conduct will not prevent someone from doing something the policy is intending on discouraging or stopping

As far as Councillor Thapar goes -- he may disagree with the policy and I believe he will vote no to adoption of a Code of Conduct policy and may refuse to sign it however it is, in my opinion, within the purview of a local government to withdraw privileges to a member of that local government up to and including withholding pay as a 'employee' of that local government.

I find it amusing that the ones who appear to have no respect for others, and continually breach what any reasonable person would consider respectful behavior, are the ones against such rules.
Saying that being respectful (and that's all it really comes down to) somehow impedes them tells me all I need to know about these folks.
There's a reason each of these folks is on their own little island. It must be lonely there, although they'd never know it because they have "their people" telling them it's OK to act in such a vile manner, and sadly they believe them. Sad really.

I wonder what the new code says about lying? How would it apply currently?

can anyone on that council actually claim to have acted honestly throughout their term while fulfilling their duties?

So a new CCoC is proposed. If it doesn't require being truthful and honest, then it should be thrown out with its proponents. If it does, then councilors Roodenburg, Coleman, Sjostrom, Thapar, Cave, Elliot, and Brisco MUST answer the question "were you honest during the fulfillment of your duties?" If not, they must resign. If yes, be prepared to answer more questions per honesty and what Morton and Wilde have had to say about this council's honesty's.

Come on Steve....turn up the heat on this. As a political blogger, this you should see as political dynamite. These Code of Conduct proponents (Roodenburg, Sjostrom, Coleman, etc.) are NOT above this code, and nor are Thapar and the other members of this dysfunctional council. Get on the case Steve, and dig....get these people to answer the question above and commit to the standard they seem to want.
