“National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize and pay tribute to all volunteers for their selflessness and the exceptional contributions that they make to Canadian communities across the country.
“Every year, more than 13 million Canadians volunteer their time, energy, and skills to supporting families, caring for the elderly, leading our youth, risking their lives as volunteer firefighters and disaster relief personnel, and helping not-for-profit organizations and communities deliver programs and services to Canadians.
“In recognition of the volunteers across Canada, our Government created the Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards (PMVA), a program aimed at recognizing volunteers across the nation and inspiring Canadians from all walks of life to find new ways of making a difference in their communities. The third PMVA call for nominations is presently open until May 9, 2014.
“During this National Volunteer Week, I invite all Canadians to join me in thanking our volunteers for their tremendous contributions to our great country. I also encourage Canadians to get involved in volunteerism, whether they invest their time and talents in their community or in an organization in need of passionate volunteers.”
