At their meeting last night - the North Cariboo Joint Planning Committee or NCJPC who is composed of all 7 members of Quesnel City Council and the 4 Cariboo RD Directors from Electoral Areas A, B, C and I agreed to ask the Cariboo Regional District Board to move forward the process for a June 14th referendum to ask residents' in the North Cariboo Recreation/Parks Function to vote on the following:
“Are you in favour of the Cariboo Regional District adopting Loan Authorization Bylaw 4905 to
borrow up to $7.5 million over 20 years to provide for the construction of a new arena as part of
the North Cariboo Recreation and Parks Service?”
This was agreed to unanimously by all members of Quesnel City Council and the Cariboo RD Directors for Areas A, B, C and I
The Cariboo RD Board will consider adopting the recommendation and proceed to adopt the necessary resolutions (motions) to authorize going to referendum on June 14th and give 1st, 2nd and 3rd Reading to Bylaw 4905 at its' April 17th meeting. Once the Board adopts the Resolutions/3 Readings of Bylaw 4905 -- watch for exact details around when/where to vote and other relevant details starting on April 22nd
Meanwhile - those who are opposed to the referendum have taken to Councillor Thapar's personal Facebook page to express their disappointment in the decision. View that discussion here
