City of Quesnel property tax deadline extended to September 30, 2020

The City of Quesnel has extended its property tax payment deadline to September 30, 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
City Council voted Tuesday April 21, 2020 to give property owners until September 30, 2020 to pay their 2020 property taxes and apply for the 2020 Home Owner Grant. These changes will give some temporary relief for those in the community that need additional time for property tax payments. City Council is currently reviewing the 2020 budget and tax rates and are assessing the impacts on community members and on the ability to fund City services.
“Quesnel City Council understands how financially difficult this time is for many businesses and residents and we hope this deferral of property taxes will give at least some near term relief as this situation unfolds over the summer,” said Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson.
Property owners may be eligible to defer their taxes through the Provincial Government’s low interest loan program. There are two programs available, the Regular program, for seniors, a surviving spouse or a person with disabilities, and the Families with Children program. View eligibility requirements here: www.gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment.
The City of Quesnel is asking residents to please take advantage of alternative payment options during this taxation year, and is urging residents to pay their property taxes online through their banking institution or by mail. The City is also asking residents to apply for the Home Owner Grant online at https://ehog.quesnel.ca/. View all payment options here: www.quesnel.ca/property-taxes.
Quesnel property taxes are due September 30, 2020, at 4:30 pm, with a 10% penalty on unpaid taxes and unclaimed home owner grants effective October 1, 2020.
