Committee of the Whole (WL Council) Highlights - April 20th mtg

Present: Mayor W. Cobb (Chair); Councillors Boehm, Brenner, Nelson, Ryll, Smith in WL Council Chambers and Councillor I. Bonnell (via Zoom) 

Meeting called to order at 6pm

The Chair recognized that the meeting was taking place on traditional Northern Secwepemc (Shuswap) territory

Meeting Agenda approved
Minutes of Committee of the Whole meeting held March 30th, 2021 was received/adopted

1) Janalyn Oige, Adult & Teen Challenge Society of BC re Funding Request

Resolved -- That the presentation of Janalyn Oige, Adult & Teen Challenge Society of BC regarding a request for funding be received for information and refer to 2021 COVID-19 Safe Restart Fund discussions'

2) Erick Peterson - City of WL Director of Protective Services' (Fire Chief) - 2020 Year in Review (Jan 2020 - March 2021)

Resolved --  That the presentation from the Director of Protective Services regarding an update of the 2020 Fire Department Year in Review and Statistics be received for information.

Business:

1)  Williams Lake Community Foundation - Next Steps

Report from the City's Economic Development Officer was presented to the Committee
Discussion ensued thereon..

Resolved -- That the Committee receive the draft Service Agreement and Fund Agreement prepared by the PG Community Foundation and recommend Council approve the Agreements & apply to NDIT to receive one-time matching Community Foundation funding... 

2) Procedure for Section 57 of the Community Charter - Notice on Title (Late Item)

Report from the City's Building Inspector was presented to the Committee

Resolved -- That the report of the Building Inspector dated April 16, 2021, regarding an overview of the procedure for Community Charter Section 57 Notice on Title be received for information.

3) Layoffs at Gibraltar Mines (Cariboo RD: Area "D"/Late Item)

Mayor Cobb reported on this item 
Discussion ensued thereon...

Resolved - That a urgent letter be forwarded to the Hon. John Horgan, Premier of BC, to ask his Energy/Mines Minister (Hon. Bruce Ralston) to intervene to get the required amendment to the existing permit at Gibraltar Mine East Pit approved to prevent the 40-60 jobs being lost at Gibraltar Mines next week...
