Johnston Bridge

Due to unprecedented inflation, the updated cost for repairs to the Johnston Bridge is upwards of $8,000,000.  Council approved application for a grant for $6,000,000 to the Capital Infrastructure Stream of the Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF) through the Canada Community Building Fund in British Columbia; $400,000 from the Capital Reinvestment Reserve to begin detailed design, engineering, and tender preparation in anticipation of successful receipt of the grant application; and if the grant is successful, remaining funding will come from the Utility Reserve Funds and the Capital Reinvestment Reserve.

The current five-year capital plan will need to be adjusted to make room for the required funding for this project, which may include delaying other projects and increasing funding to this reserve.

  • Union of BC Municipalities Strengthening Communities Services grant application for the "Vulnerable Peers Coordinated Work Experience Project "
  • Infrastructure Canada Active Transportation grant application for the "Active Transportation Plan Update and Enhancement Project"

Carriage House Design Plans -  Virtual Public Meeting

Are you considering a carriage house or secondary dwelling on your property? Join us May 30 for a virtual community meeting to share your feedback on ready-to-use carriage house designs.

The City is working with a designer—and you—to create five ready-to-use, energy efficient designs for carriage houses and secondary dwellings, also known as accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and we want to ensure the designs meet your building needs.

Monday, May 30, 2022
6:00 - 7:30 p.m. (Zoom)

The ready-to-use ADU designs will help reduce costs and expedite the building permit process for homeowners. Learn more about ADU benefits for homeowners.

These designs are just one way the City is supporting the development of ADUs, to help create a variety of housing options within our community. Can’t make it? A feedback survey will also be available from May 30 to June 10.
