Williams Lake celebrates 2022 Local Government Awareness Week/Public Works Week

Courtesy of the City of Williams Lake:

The City of Williams Lake will be celebrating both ‘Local Government Awareness Week’ and ‘Public Works Week’ from May 15-21, 2022.

Local governments contribute to many aspects of our daily lives, including waste and recycling collection, snow removal, fire protection, recreation programs, development, parks and trails and road maintenance.

Municipalities in B.C. are responsible for providing local services and governance to approximately 89 per cent of the province’s population.

The City will be promoting Local Government Awareness Week on its Facebook page, including information on the many services it provides, and highlighting some of the ‘Faces of Local Government” on its website at https://www.williamslake.ca/930/Opportunity-Awaits

Public Works Week is an opportunity to celebrate the many services supported by Public Works. The City’s Municipal Services department provides essential services and maintains the City’s infrastructure. This includes roads and drainage, transit, management of the City’s fleet, parks operations, cemetery operations, building maintenance, water, sewer, waste and recycling and airport operations.

In honour of Public Works Week the City is hosting a colouring contest for children up to 12 years old for a chance to win a prize! The colouring contest page can be downloaded from the City’s website at www.williamslake.ca. Submissions for the colouring contest must be dropped off at City Hall at 450 Mart St. or scanned and emailed to publicworks@williamslake.ca by May 19, 2022 at 4:30 pm.
