NDP talk with local seniors'

The BC NDP’s Critic for Seniors and Health Care came through 100 Mile House Tuesday and was in Williams Lake Wednesday.

Just three months until Election Time in British Columbia, Katrine Conroy, MLA for Kootenay West wants seniors in rural BC to know the NDP has them in mind.

Conroy says while the NDP hasn’t released their official platform yet, home support is a top priority for her.

One of the big issues is home support and ensuring adequate home support for seniors, the kind of home support that used to be available and has been cut by the BC Liberals, really significantly.”

Conroy cites the 12 unfinished rooms at Fischer Place in 100 Mile House as a target for them should they be elected in May. She also says this is a place the BC Liberals have clearly neglected as there are seniors waiting to get in.

She says seniors need more respect and that’s what the NDP will give them.

“They built this province. They’ve built these communities. I think, we in turn, should ensure that they can live their last whatever years of their life, maybe they have twenty years left, they might have thirty, they might only have a few left, with the dignity, care and respect they deserve.”

Conroy also remarks on the recent surge of, “Age-Friendly” dollars being doled out by the BC Liberals, saying it seems, “disingenuous” to be doing all that now just months before an election.

The Critic along with NDP candidate for Cariboo-Chilcotin Charlie Wyse was in Williams Lake from 1pm-3pm Wednesday in the CRD Williams Lake Library meeting room.
