MLA Barnett speaks on '13 Throne Speech

Provincial reports indicate that many of the Premier's own caucus members and backbenchers were upset and disillusioned with the Throne Speech.

Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett is not on that list.

Barnett describes the speech from the throne to us in one word initially: jobs.

“British Columbia has been built on a vision. It was never built in one day. It was built in time. Basically what the throne speech does is it gives and builds on the future of British Columbia. To build something today such as the mine we’re trying to get in the Chilcotin, Prosperity, which has been on the table for 19 years; there’s many, many people who live in the Cariboo-Chilcotin hoping that mine will come to fruition so they can build on tomorrow for their family.”

Barnett says with regards to the promise of a booming Liquid Natural Gas industry up North, it’s about having that vision.

BC Conservative Leader John Cummins compares it to buying a lottery ticket and hoping for the best.

Says Barnett: “While you’re working on the future, you’re providing for today through other avenues. Like I said, this province was built on visions. If people hadn’t taken the grasp or the opportunity to look at the future, we wouldn’t have the things we have today.”

Barnett also briefly touches upon the proposed, 'Seniors' Advocate.' She says Minister of State for Seniors Ralph Sultan is currently working on the specifics of that and gives us her assurance that it will be a very beneficial position for seniors across BC and especially in the Cariboo with its high population of seniors.

MLA's are in the Legislature this week for the first time since last May.
