In a item going to the Board of Education for School District #28 (Quesnel) at their meeting tonight- SD #28 Trustee Caroline Mitchell is calling on her colleagues to adopt her proposed 'Trustee Variation Order' which, if adopted, would see a Board of Education in Quesnel from the current 7 members down to 5 Trustees, in light of budget challenges for the upcoming 2014/15 Budget year. The BC Ministry of Education has guidelines on a 'Trustee Variation Order' which includes consultation with the City of Quesnel, Cariboo Regional District Board and affected local First Nations which you can read here
I'd like to see the same proposal considered here for the Board of Education for School District #27 (Cariboo-Chilcotin) or even better, how about something I previously talked about -- look seriously at amalgamating the two local school districts (Quesnel/Cariboo-Chilcotin) into one. If the Cariboo Regional District Board can handle local/sub-regional/regional services for the 16 different Municipal/Electoral Areas with not too much difficulty - there is no reasonable reason why a School District covering the rural areas and municipal areas of Wells, Quesnel, Williams Lake and 100 Mile House can't be done either. Let's study the issues involved and look at the costs/benefits and see if it can be a positive for the region or maintain status quo of Two School Districts with Two Different sets of administrations, etc...
