Kamloops "Vote 50" Campaign

In an intriguing move - a group of Kamloops non-partisan citizens are behind a new move called "Kamloops Vote 50 Campaign".

The idea behind this campaign is to raise the voter participate rate of the Kamloops City Council election from the 2011 mark of 29% to 50% in this November's vote.

They have established a website (view here) and a Facebook page (view here)

Although written for the forthcoming City of Kamloops election - I applaud this initiative as civic elections are the least participated ones that voters engage in.  Thanks to Kamloops Councillor Arjun Singh for bringing this to my attention on Facebook

For comparative purposes - here are the 2011 voter participation rates in the last local government general elections in this region (Cariboo-Chilcotin)

District of Wells - 58.7%
City of Quesnel - 40.2%
City of Williams Lake - 50.7%
District of 100 Mile House - 36.1%

School District #28 (Quesnel) - 20.4%
School District #27 (Cariboo-Chilcotin) - 14.2%

Cariboo Regional District:

Areas A, B, C, D, F, G, I and K - Acclamation for Area Director

Area E - 7.9%
Area H - 20.7%
Area J - 46%
Area L - 14.8%

I wonder if the City of Williams Lake voter participation rate for the 2014 Local Government Election will go substantially up, given the number of upset voters at Williams Lake City Council I'm hearing from, either on Facebook, here or "on the street"

We'll find that out on November 15th...
