Lachance runs for WL City Councillor

Former Cariboo RD Area 'D' Director (1999-2002) Sue Lachance announced yesterday that she wants to become a Williams Lake City Councillor in this November's local government election.

I personally plan to vote for her in the forthcoming City of WL Election on Nov 15th.  I believe she has the skill-set that WL City Council needs which includes business and previous elected/administrative local government experience

Ms. Lachance will be, in my opinion, one of 10-12 people (including sitting WL City Councillors Bonnell, Walters and Zacharias) competing for the 6 WL City Councillor seats... Please note 3 of the 6 WL City Council seats will be vacant in the Nov 15th election while Councillors Bonnell, Walters and Zacharias will attempt to hang on to their seats for the 4 year term starting in December and concluding on October 31st 2018

With her announcement, watch for other challengers to WL City Council plus the 3 incumbent WL City Councillors to make their announcements for Williams Lake City Councillor or Mayor in the forthcoming days/weeks to come.

Sue Lachance, long time resident and business owner has announced her intention to run for (Williams Lake) City Council. 

 “Williams Lake needs strong leaders who come to the table with new ideas, not ideology,” she said. A resident of Williams Lake for 33 years, Lachance said “I care deeply and passionately about my community and I consider serving on council not as politics, but as public service. I want to do all I can to contribute to preserving all that’s great about Williams Lake and to getting it back on course.”

Lachance is not a stranger to politics or to Municipal Governance.  She was the Area “D” CRD representative during 1999-2002 where she served as both the Chairman of Finance and the Chairman of the Library Committee during her term. Ms. Lachance holds her Certification in Local Government Administration from Capilano University and has been instrumental in many positive changes for the City.  Some of her many years of volunteer services includes chairing the Williams Lake Economic Development Corporation, Communities in Bloom and she was a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission. As a current business owner and long-time business consultant while working with Community Futures, Lachance has a deep understanding of the issues facing the community, specifically the business sector.

She said she is focusing her campaign on several issues, including lowering taxes to help reduce the burden on struggling families and attracting new industry to Williams Lake. Lachance believes this will help create new jobs for the City, “I want to get the manufacturing sector to look at Williams Lake as a viable place for value added products. To do that we must be competitive and offer an affordable tax rate.”  She also plans on working towards a healthier downtown as well as improving core city services such as street maintenance.  She notes that many streets are in disrepair and although some of the more visible ones were paved in time for this election, there is still much work to be done.

Lachance understands the needs of this community more than most and is motivated by a firm desire to be a strong voice for the people of this City. She concludes, “We need honest leaders who can bring investment and good paying jobs to Williams Lake.  We need to be brave and bold, not sitting in offices pushing paperwork and spending money on slogans to sell our city. Slogans don’t sell cities, leaders do. Economic development, lower taxes and a refurbished infrastructure are my main goals going forward.”
