The District of 100 Mile House announced in the spring that funding was received by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia through the Labour Market Partnership Program to review and adjust the current Economic Development plan. Through 2020, work has continued on this project and is now entering a new phase of community engagement.
Updating the Economic Development Plan had two goals with the first goal now complete. The Rapid Needs Assessment for community recovery and revitalization finalized by Simon Fraser University – Community Economic Development involved over 50 local stakeholders and resulted in 49 recommendations. These recommendations have now been brought forward and are being considered as part of the overall plan.
Beginning with the new online survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/100MileHouseED) this phase of the Economic Development Plan update involves multiple opportunities for additional community engagement. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete and all answers are anonymous. Survey responses will provide direction the strategy should take and all local residents and south cariboo communities are encouraged to contribute.
The survey can also be found on the District website at www.100milehouse.com
“The initial rapid needs assessment demonstrated how the residents of 100 Mile House and our surrounding region are resilient despite the challenges over the past few years” says Mitch Campsall, Mayor of the District of 100 Mile House. “The assessment was a starting point for further discussion that we want to have with all our community members. The next step in this discussion is encouraging everyone to complete the online survey.”
With an expected completion date of May 2021 there will be additional opportunities for the community to participate in the development of the strategy and further announcements will be made in the new year
