BC Political News...March 12th edition

Earlier today, Federal Cabinet Ministers Stockwell Day and Chuck Strahl and Richmond-Delta East MP John Cummins announced that they will not be running in the next federal election, whenever it occurs (my guess - we'll have a Federal election in May)

See here (Globe and Mail), here (CBC), and here (The Province)

It'll be sad to see them leave, however they have served the Province of BC well especially Ministers Strahl and Day and I wish them and their families the very best in their future endeavours

More closer to home - the Rush ran this story today:

THE WASHINGTON DC BASED GROUP EARTHWORKS HAS WRITTEN A LETTER SEEKING A MEETING WITH CREDIT SUISSE, WHICH HAS LOANED HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR OTHER TASEKO PROJECTS.

IN THE LETTER, THEY REPORT THE RECENTLY RE-SUBMITTED PROSPERTY MINE PROPOSAL WOULD
THREATEN THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE CULTURE OF FIRST NATIONS RESIDENTS LIVING IN
THE AREA.

BC'S MINISTER OF STATE FOR MINING, RANDY HAWES, CALLS IT MORALLY WRONG FOR
FOREIGN INTERESTS TO HALT DEVELOPMENT IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

HE ALSO SAYS REVENUE SHARING COULD HELP BETTER EDUCATE FIRST NATIONS CHILDREN LIVING ON BC RESERVES.

EARTHWORKS HAVE WARNED CREDIT SUISSE OF WHAT THEY SAY ARE THE PROJECTS
UNACCEPTABLE RISK FOR INVESTORS.

XENI GWE'TIN CHIEF MARILYN BAPTISTE, WHO'S BAND WOULD BE MOST DIRECTLY IMPACTED
BY THIS PROJECT, SAYS SHE SEES NO PROBLEM IN TEAMING UP WITH AN AMERICAN GROUP
CONSIDERING TASEKO HAVE MINING INTERESTS AROUND THE WORLD.

SHE ALSO SAYS IT'S MORALLY WRONG FOR THE BC GOVERNMENT TO ALLOW PEOPLE LIKE HAWES
TO PUBLICLY DISRESPECT HER PEOPLE
