From the Rush(local radio);
Editor's Note - this topic will be discussed tomorrow night by WL Council at 6pm in Committee Room #1. However, if necessary due to amount of people in attendance, Committee of the Whole is prepared to move their meeting into WL Council Chambers
WATER WOES IN A WILLIAMS LAKE NEIGHBOURHOOD WERE A TOPIC OF CONCERN AT A RECENT PUBLIC MEETING IN THE LAKE CITY.
FORTY NINE RESIDENCES IN THE WOODLAND DRIVE AREA ARE SUFFERING FROM A LACK OF PROPER WATER AND SEWER SERVICE.
MARTIN SILLS, A WOODLAND DRIVE RESIDENT, SAYS WITHOUT CHANGES, LOCAL RESIDENTS WON’T BE ABLE TO SELL THEIR HOMES BECAUSE THEY DON’T QUALIFY FOR A MORTAGE WITHOUT THE SERVICE.
SILLS SAYS HIS NEIGHBOURHOOD IS WITHIN CITY LIMITS AND THEREFORE DESERVES THE SAME SERVICE AS OTHER HOMEOWNERS IN THE CITY.
THE PROBLEM IS THE COST – THE PRICE TAG FOR THE CHANGES WOULD RUN THE CITY $3.5 MILLION –$2.5 MILLION OF WHICH THEY’RE HOPING TO RECEIVE IN THE FORM OF A GRANT FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
IF THAT’S SUCCESSFUL THEN THE CITY WOULD LIKELY BORROW THE REMAINING MILLION AND HAVE THE 49 HOMEOWNERS IN THE AREA FINANCE THE MONEY OVER A 20 YEAR PERIOD.
ALL OF THE ABOVE IS CONSIDERED A BEST CASE SCENARIO.
OTTAWA IS EXPECTED TO MAKE A DECISION ON THE GRANT SOMETIME THIS SUMMER.
