From the City of Williams Lake:
The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex is delighted to be working with the Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training Employment Centre (CCATEC) to train aboriginal youth for careers as lifeguards. This exciting initiative begins in April 2011 and continues until the end of June.
A group of young adults will be screened by Aquatic staff to determine their swimming skills and eight to ten students will begin an intense program to complete Red Cross Standard First Aid and the LifeSaving Society’s Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and National Lifeguard Service course. Candidates will be qualified to apply for lifeguard positions around the province.
"This is the first time an initiative like this has occurred and I am thrilled to see it happening at Sam Ketcham Pool," says Mayor Kerry Cook. First Nations students who are interested should contact Deidri or Lucy at CCATEC.
