WL Council met Tuesday in Committee of the Whole to discuss several matters including:
* Update on the new City of WL OCP
* NCLGA Resolutions
* Industrial Tax Revitalization Exemptions
* Early Budget Approval - 3rd and Oliver Traffic Light Upgrade
* Sosua "Sister City" Initiative - Future Direction
However - because the main and all side doors to WL City Hall were locked/secure prior to the meeting start time at 6:00pm (I arrived at 5:50pm and waited until 6:00pm), I was unable to sit/observe Council meeting in Committee and as such - I am unable to provide a meeting summary as to what Council decided for the above 5 matters. It really calls into questions WL Council's desire for open government.
While true that I could have easily sent a text message to several members of Williams Lake Council to open the doors, the general public does not have the same ability and whenever Council is meeting, the building main doors should be open 15 mins prior to a meeting to ensure the general public can observe Council at work, whether meeting in Committee of the Whole, regular/special Council or public hearing(s). This is in accordance with generally accepted practices of open and transparent government, which is not currently practiced by Williams Lake Council and when I intend to change in the upcoming election and working with the next Council
