At its' March 6th meeting -- Williams Lake Council passed a Resolution asking again for more Victim Services Funding. In defending the request -- Williams Lake Mayor Kerry Cook said:
“the issue for us in Williams Lake is that we’d like the victim services formula to be based more on demand than on population so that we are actually getting the services that we need for our community.”
Victim Services is a regional service that both Williams Lake and Cariboo Regional District residents' in Areas D, E, F, J and K together make use of and our approach to asking for additional dollars should be a joint approach, rather than a City of Williams Lake alone approach
The Central Cariboo Joint Committee of 2008-2011 had it right then when it asked for a comprehensive report from the City of WL CAO/Victim Services Manager on the future of Victim Services in the Central Cariboo-Chilcotin area and WL Council needs to return to the creation of that plan and then lobby aggressively Shirley Bond for the funding of that plan...
Another step that could be taken is Joint City Council Meetings on yearly/semi-yearly basis (ie - Williams Lake, Quesnel) (like they have in Saanich and Victoria) to discuss this issue and other mutual issues as we need to pool all of our resources together for commonly used services, like Victim Services, rather than just taxing our residents' to the max to do our "own thing"....
Williams Lake Council could also hold semi annual or annual meetings with the local School Board (like Quesnel Council does with its' local School Board) to discuss mutual issues and even look into purchasing together commonly used items like janitorial supplies or office supplies as bulk buying does save money... ask families who does this for their budgets...
