WildSafeBC – Garbage Bin Tagging in Quesnel and Williams Lake now underway

Courtesy of the Cariboo Regional District:

WildSafeBC is currently visiting various neighbourhoods in Quesnel and Williams Lake to do weekly garbage tagging. Fall is the time when bears increase their feeding activity to prepare for winter and all communities are noticing increased activity. Garbage bins placed on the curb the night before pickup will be tagged, as garbage is the number-one attractant for black bears. These targeted bins will receive a bright yellow sticker that serves as a warning to residents that their garbage is an attractant.

By warning residents and educating the public about attractant management through initiatives such as garbage tagging, WildSafeBC hopes to prevent human-wildlife conflict in the Cariboo Regional District. WildSafeBC is the provincial leader in preventing conflict with wildlife through collaboration, education and community solutions. The program has been running in the Cariboo Regional District for the 2021 season.

Funding is generously provided by the Cariboo Regional District, City of Quesnel, City of Williams Lake, District of 100 Mile House, the British Columbia Conservation Foundation, and the Province of BC.
