The Community Policing Board, with the support of the City of Williams Lake, has made a strategic decision to discontinue its storefront office at the Community Corner at 3rd Avenue and Oliver Street.
Having operated at the new location for just over a year, it was determined that there was not sufficient visitation by the general public to justify the volunteer effort required to keep the storefront office open. Community Policing will continue to operate out of Community Corner and will be occupying the existing boardroom for meeting space and storage.
This change will result in a more equitable allocation of space within the Community Corner and will provide more room for the Williams Lake Central Business Improvement Area to conduct their business. The space occupied by the Cariboo Growers Cooperative will remain unchanged.
“I want to assure residents that the core services provided by the Community Policing groups will not be affected by this change,” says Dave Dickson, Safer Community Coordinator. “Community Policing is a volunteer-based group of organizations that have made significant contributions to reducing crime and improving safety in the community and it has been determined by the Board that providing a storefront office is not the most effective use of resources at this time.”
