CRD Board Highlights - May 6th meeting

Ministry of Forest, Lands & Natural Resource Operations

Gerry MacDougall, Regional Executive Director – Cariboo Region, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, presented information to the Board about the Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resources. The focus of the presentation was the structure of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. MacDougall was joined in the meeting by Darrell Orosz, Manager of the Cariboo Fire Centre, who provided a brief overview of current staffing and equipment levels, the building of relationships within the region and an outlook for the 2011 fire season.

Community Works Funding for McLeese Lake

The Cariboo Regional District will provide up to $30,000 of Community Works Funding to the McLeese Lake Recreation Society for renovations and energy improvements to the McLeese Lake Community Hall. Projects include lighting upgrades, installing insulation to the outside walls and, if possible, any other related minor repairs. The lighting upgrades will improve the energy efficiency of the building, resulting in annual energy savings of approximately 4,800 KWH. The new insulation will increase the R-value of the building envelope, resulting in increased energy efficiency.

Federal Funding Approved for Anahim Lake Airport

Recently the CRD was advised by Transport Canada that its Airport Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) application for up to $171,320 for the purchase of runway sweeping equipment for the Anahim Lake Airport was approved. The runway sweeper is necessary to assist with improved winter maintenance and will result in fewer cancelled flights. Winter maintenance at the airport is provided as part of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure highways contract, currently under agreement with Interior Roads Ltd (IRL). Although the runway sweeper will be operated and maintained by IRL, it will remain a capital asset of the airport. The funding provided by the ACAP program is for 100 percent of the purchase cost of the equipment including delivery to Anahim Lake.

C2C

The CRD Emergency Planning program will be applying to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities’ Community to Community funding program for two forums. The Regional District intends to invite First Nations to initiate dialogue, training and agreements that will facilitate organized and combined responses to emergency events that affect civilians of both First Nations and CRD communities.

BCCFA Comes to 100 Mile House

In celebration of the Cariboo Regional District’s (CRD) 2010-2011 Forest Capital of Canada designation and the new 100 Mile House Community Forest, the District of 100 Mile House and CRD are hosting the 2011 British Columbia Community Forest Association (BCCFA) AGM and Conference, June 9-11, 2011.
