Rush reporter Greg Fry asked Williams Lake Mayor Kerry Cook about the possibility of a "sobering centre" for alcoholics in Williams Lake?
See her answer here
However, as one City taxpayer, I have some questions which include:
1) Who pays for the Staff/Operations of this centre?
2) What kind of supports will be available at this centre?
3) Where will this centre be located?
4) Will Interior Health or the Provincial Gov't help with the funding or operations of this centre?
This item has been discussed for a number of years locally but until the above question can be answered plus more and given Interior Health's previous rejection of a drug/alcohol centre here in the Central Cariboo - I believe more homework/lobbying needs to take place before a "sobering" centre becomes reality.
City of WL taxpayers, alone, should not bear 100% costs for such a centre

If memory serves me correct, there were Addiction Centers in the Williams Lake area in the past. I believe there was one at the Mission ... and also one out at the old Ski Hill between Wildwood and Deep Creek??
While addictions are self-inflicted, once some one has the problem it is a medical problem and is a disease.
As such, it should be funded through Health budget.
