This week's ad consists on the promotion of the "Local Government Awareness Week" starting next week. It discusses how one should solve any issue with the City including:
* Coffee with Mayor Cook or seperate meeting
* Meeting with City Staff
* Email the Mayor or City Councillors
* Write the City directly
Two things that was missing was "Letters to the Editors", a perfect legitimate way to express your viewpoints to the City's elected officials. Another is running into or calling any of the City's elected officials. If you have a question/concern - I would think that they would have no difficulty taking your phone call or talking with you on the street about any problems you have with the City
In fact - I said so in a past blog post which you can find here
Finally - I believe that these ads serve no real public purpose other than "self-promotion" which I think the public would see less of and save that money by charging property owners less in taxes each year. Not much, mind you, but a little here and a little there, pretty soon you've saved residents' hundreds of dollars each year
Update - From the City of WL Communications Coordinator:
Hi Steve.
The A Step Ahead feature in the newspapers does not cost the City anything. The papers do not charge for it.
Ken
