City of WL Press Releases - Fire Dept collection & Pool Update

1) WL Fire Department in July

Again this year, the Williams Lake Fire Department will do a Christmas in July food drive to collect donations for the Salvation Army  Food Bank.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, fire department members will go door to door in the areas of Westridge, Country Club Boulevard, Terra Ridge, Western Ave, Midnight Drive, and sections of 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Avenues to collect non-perishable food items.

“We know that this time of year the shelves at the Salvation Army Food Bank could use some additional help,” says Fire Chief and Director of Protective Services Randy Isfeld. “We’re asking the community to help us bring Christmas in July for those in our city that rely on the Food Bank to help them get by.”

Residents who would like to participate are asked to place their donations on their front porches for the firefighters to collect. Donations can also be dropped off at the Fire Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. July 25-28.

2) Sam Ketcham Memorial Pool Update

The cause of the leak in the main tank of the Sam Ketcham Pool has been located, and the City is currently in the process of repairing the tank. It is anticipated repairs to the tank will be completed on July 22. Once repairs are complete, the pool will be refilled and ready for re-opening some time during the last week of July or first week of August. Another update will be issued when the exact date for re-opening is confirmed.

The City thanks residents for their patience while the pool is closed for these repairs and reminds them that the fitness centre remains open.
