The Cariboo Regional District’s (CRD) Forest Capital Committee will be planting Spruce, Pine and Douglas Fir seedlings throughout the region to commemorate its final year as the Forest Capital of Canada. Through this event, the CRD will recognize the many businesses and organizations that sponsored the CRD’s BC Street display during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
The CRD, a signatory of the Climate Action Charter, is also planting to support its commitment of becoming carbon neutral by 2012.
Seedlings will be planted at 10 a.m. on the following dates and locations:
Monday, July 11 South Cariboo Sepa Lake Accessible Trailhead
Tuesday, July 12 North Cariboo Kosta’s Cove at Ten Mile Lake - just past Ten Mile Fire VFD
Wednesday, July 13 Central Cariboo Esler Sports Fields
The young plants are being donated and planted by the SilvaGro Partnership and Blue Collar Silviculture of Quesnel. The CRD Forest Capital Committee would like to thank these partners for their support of the Regional District Forest Capital program over the past two years.
The Cariboo Regional District is currently celebrating its final year as the 2010-2011 Forest Capital of Canada. Over the past year, the CRD has been involved in several projects and hosted events which promote industry diversification and key non-traditional forest industries; non-timber forest products, value-added wood products, bio-energy, eco-tourism and agriculture.
