Given the recent heavy rainfall, the Fraser and Quesnel Rivers have risen dramatically.
The City is expecting the Fraser to peak before noon on Wednesday, June 20, but not at a level that requires any evacuation alerts.
That said, the following are some points for residents to consider:
a) Be prepared and informed.
b) Prepare a 72-hour kit if you live in a low-lying area (click for more info here)
c) The City has placed safety barriers along portions of the Riverfront Trail or roadways; the public is asked to respect those barriers.
d) Stay away from rivers, creeks and their banks – keep careful watch over children and pets.
e) Exercise caution and patience when using the Davie Street railway crossing and the
Elliott Street entrance on to Marsh Drive in West Quesnel.
f) Listen to local radio for updates regarding evacuation alerts, warnings etc.
g) The City checks the river level on a regular basis while monitoring infrastructure such as roads, trails, and storm, water and sewer lines to ensure public safety.
