From the Rush:
A QUESNEL CITIZEN SAYS THE FEDERAL FINANCE MINISTER SUPPORTS HER ACCUSATION THAT MAYOR MARY SJOSTROM IS DOUBLE DIPPING.
PAT MORTON READ A LETTER FROM JAMES FLAHERTY AT MONDAY NIGHT'S CITY COUNCIL MEETING.
HE STATES THAT THE 1/3RD TAX EXEMPTION IS TO RECOGNIZE THE EXPENSES OFFICIALS INCUR IN THE PERFORMANCE OF PUBLIC DUTIES ADDING THAT SOME PROVINCES AND MUNICIPALITIES ARE SHIFTING AWAY FROM THAT TO REQUIRING THAT EXPENSES BE ACOUNTED FOR AND THEN HAVE ELECTED OFFICIALS GET REIMBURSED ON THE BASES OF ACTUAL EXPENSES INCURRED.
MORTON SAYS MAYOR SJOSTROM IS DOING BOTH AND IS ASKING HER TO PAY BACK MORE THAN 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS TO QUESNEL TAXPAYERS.
MORTON ALSO ASKED THE MAYOR TO ADMIT SHE WAS WRONG AND TO PUBLICLY APOLOGIZE TO HER.
MAYOR SJOSTROM SAID SHE WOULD READ THE REPORT AND GET BACK TO HER

the best pro athelete would be traded for causing the team this much grief with their baggage.
It's my understanding that the accuser is the wife of the person who was defeated in the last Mayor's race. Seems like very sour grapes to me, and with all her unfounded accusations also a HUGE waste of taxpayers dollars.
Quesnel Council needs to grow a pair and tell her to take a flying leap so she stops wasting our money.
To the second blogger...it doesn't matter who she is married to. The fact that someone or anyone is holding our politician's accountable is good. If I am not mistaken these issues were brought up before the election therefore I do not see this as sour grapes but as someone wanting answers to what they see as a wrong. I think having the City Auditor put together the rebuttal report is a red herring or a bit like having the fox manage the hen house, How could anyone in his positon be completely objective? Some of the excerpts quoted were, in my opinion hunted for to justify the mispsending. I am not saying there was anything illegal done but it does seem that the Mayor is taken advantage of her position and the perks it can bring her.
Based on Shaw Tuesday night, morton and the mayor strongly dislike each other. Their ongoing sparring and history shows they seem to be very long time enemies. It is extremely disturbing to see their interpersonal spite costing taxpayers so much money and all the staff time, energy, and morale as they are caught in the middle. Its time morton and the mayor (could be a comedy sketch if it weren't so sad)took it outside and left everyone else alone. Go to court, have it out, do it on your own tab, not the taxpayers. Have a fight there out of your own pockets. Stop sucking up time, energy, and morale while you spill your bile on each other.
