We would like to ask that our supporters talk to the candidates about the importance of arts and culture in healthy communities, and ask, if elected, how will they support arts and culture in our region?Again as I did with the Cariboo Mountain Bike Consortium -- my own thoughts are:
1) While not quite the strong supporter of arts/culture that CRD Area F Director Joan Sorley and WL City Councillor Laurie Walters are -- the evidence shows that not only is Arts/Culture becoming more and more a 'economic force to be reckoned with' but there is growing evidence that placing kids in arts/culture activities like painting, playing an instrument, etc also helps their social growth and generally leads to a healthier society overall
2) As to how I would support Arts/Culture in our Region if elected -- I would continue supporting the already established Central Cariboo Arts/Culture Function. In addition - I would support using a variety of CRD Budgets to support Arts/Culture activities in the Central Cariboo region. Finally, I have had a previous conversation with former CCACS President Graham Kelsey and would encourage the CCACS Board of Directors' to consider a strategic 5 year plan to review where we've been and set a targeted direction for the Arts/Culture Sector for the next 5 years, here in the Central Cariboo
