Should City of WL continue to issue Proclamations?

A proclamation is defined as:

the act of saying something in a public, official, or definite way

The act of issuing a proclamation goes all the way back to 14th Century England

With respect to local governments issuing a proclamation - these were done to promote local events before the advent of social media

However, in light of endorsing events, via proclamations, which are not unanimously supported in the community - several local governments in BC including the City of Nelson and the District of 100 Mile House no longer issue proclamations

As a result of the 'Celebrate Life Week' proclamation debacle of Williams Lake Council - should the City of Williams Lake discontinue the practice?

I think the time has come to discontinue it as with the advent of Facebook and Twitter - issuance of local proclamations no longer have the prominence it used to have within the community
