Theft in WL Library

Welcome to Williams Lake reports the following occurred in our local Williams Lake Library:

On March 4 at approximately 3:00pm, a 22 year old male who was studying in the Williams Lake Library told police that he was approached by another male who stole his tablet, Blackberry and two iPods.

Despite the library being quite busy at the time, there were no witnesses and no surveillance video available to RCMP.

This incident is still under investigation

As the Area D Alternate Director - I find this unacceptable as our Libraries should be places of learning and safety - especially for our kids that make constant use of our local libraries, whether in our major centres in Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House or in our rural communities.

Just a few mins ago - I made a recommendation to my Area D Director, Deb Bischoff, asking she consider taking to the CRD Board a proposal to install security cameras in our local libraries in Quesnel, Williams Lake and 100 Mile so two things can occur:

a) Thefts can be properly investigated when they occur and help send the message that our libraries are safe places for children that make use of our libraries

b) Protection of our Library Staff
