In not an entirely surprising move, given the recent public discourse over a Provincial Election -- BC Premier John Horgan (NDP - Langford/Juan de Fuca) requested BC's Lt-Gov (Hon. Janet Austin) to dissolve the 41st BC Legislature and subsequently, she approved his requested and BC's 42nd General Election will be held on Saturday, October 24th. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, many aspects of a provincial election will be different (more online engagement and less in person). Details of how you can vote in a provincial election will be available at Elections BC website here
As for the two Cariboo-Chilcotin provincial ridings:
Cariboo-Chilcotin -- Outgoing MLA Donna Barnett will not be seeking re-election. BC Liberals currently in a process to select their candidate for the 42nd BC General Election. A formal vote has yet to be called.
Cariboo-North -- incumbent MLA Coralee Oakes is expected to seek re-election
No other provincial political parties have announced candidates for these two ridings but they have until Friday, October 2 at 1 PM PST to do so.....
Finally - those wishing to cast ballots via mail can request one via Elections BC (email electionsbc@elections.bc.ca) or by phone at 1-800-661-8683. The ballot must be in the local Electoral District office by Friday, October 23rd
Some of my constituents in my Electoral Area have responded negatively to this election call so far but we'll see if John Horgan's gamble was worth it on October 25th.....
Finally - my uncle, Alan Forseth, writes on this subject. You can read that here
