From the Rush (Local Radio Station):
The saw mill at Tolko Industries Soda Creek division in Williams Lake has shut down until further notice.
Ryan Oliver is manager of the mill. He says they’ll be shutdown Friday, Monday and next Tuesday. He says they’ll re-evaluate the situation early next week.
Oliver says the wet spring is to blame adding it’s difficult and expensive to haul logs at the moment.
Tolko keep their logs in the bush which has sparked criticism from the local steelworkers union. They say they’d like to see Tolko stock more logs at the yard.
Oliver has countered that there’s a cost to log up your yard “for something you’re not going to expect.”
The temporary shutdown affects approximately 50 workers. Oliver says the planer, shipping departments and log yard will be unaffected by the shutdown.
