July 23rd, 2023 Daily Update from the Cariboo Fire Centre:

1) Weather Update

Winds are expected to slow and cooler temperatures with cloud cover will decrease fire behaviour.
Shower activity may develop during the evening/overnight in the Chilcotin. On Monday gusty south east - south west winds are forecast followed by scattered thundershowers bringing increased humidity levels and cooler temperatures.

2) Wildfire Updates, by Zone

a) Central Cariboo Zone (Williams Lake/Cariboo RD Areas D,E,F)

There are 15 active fires in the Central Cariboo Zone. Of these fires, seven are Out of Control, five are Being Held and three are Under Control

Ground crews have fully protected decked timber in the area and it is not threatened by the wildfire. Ground crews will continue to create hose trail and mop us as this fire displays low fire activity.

b) Quesnel Zone (Quesnel/Wells; Cariboo RD Areas A,B,C,I)

There are 19 active fires in the Quesnel Zone. Of these fires, 13 are Out of Control, two are Being Held, and four are Under Control.

Burgess Creek (C12135)

Situational Overview
On Saturday evening, air tankers blanketed the wildfire with fire retardant. These fire suppression efforts were hampered by gusting winds, pushing the fire southwest over the retardant. Firefighters are onsite today with additional air support and heavy equipment.

Situational Overview
Both of these wildfires were bucketed heavily by helicopters on Saturday evening. They are showing decreased fire behaviour and are not threatening any structures. Ground crews are onsite today actioning both fires.

These fires are located within the Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park and are being monitored in accordance with BC Provincial Parks.

c) Chilcotin Zone (Cariboo RD Areas J/K)

There are currently 13 active fires within the Chilcotin Zone. Of the active fires, seven are Out of Control, three are Being Held, and three are Under Control

Bull Canyon Park (C51974)

Situational Overview
Air tankers blanketed the fire with retardant on Friday and placed additional fire retardant lines on Saturday. Heavy equipment was utilized to reinforce existing roads and guards. Strong gusting winds pushed the wildfire northwest in the direction of Bull Canyon Park, prompting an Evacuation Alert. The fire is not encroaching on Highway 20 and with the drop in temperature and calmer winds, the fire is not threatening any infrastructure. Ground crews are actioning the wildfire with continued air support.

On Saturday the fire grew significantly, pushed east by gusting winds. Containment of the fire is a priority with a focus on the north west and south east flanks. A machine guard is being placed along the south east flank and existing structures. Structures in the vicinity of the fire are not threatened.

Air tankers blanketed the fire with retardant on Friday. Strong winds created some spotting along the north east flank of the fire. There is a machine guard around 100% of the fire. Ground crews will mop up and patrol.

Air tankers blanketed the fire and skimmers cooled the fire behaviour with water. Ground crews are working within perameters set by BC Parks to build machine and hand guards around the perimeter of the fire.

There are NO active wildfires in the 100 Mile House Zone.
