July 28th, 2023 Daily Update from the Cariboo Fire Centre
1) Weather Update
Isolated showers and afternoon thundershowers can be expected in the region today. Winds are expected to be light and variable and tend towards a northeasterly direction. On Saturday, scattered showers and isolated afternoon thundershowers are expected over the Chilcotin while isolated afternoon showers or thundershowers are forecast elsewhere. Some Buildup Index values in the Chilcotin are expected to trend lower as a result of this. High initial spread conditions are expected tomorrow afternoon in the 100 Mile House zone, as gusty southwesterly winds and humidity values in the low 20’s are forecast.
2) General Update from the Cariboo Fire Centre
As of July 14, 2023 the four fires that comprised the Gillies Complex are being managed by a dedicated Incident Management Team (IMT). In addition, the 10 wildfires that comprised the Kappan Complex are being managed by a dedicated Incident Management Team (IMT). 3) Active Wildfire Situation, by Zone
a) Central Cariboo Zone (Williams Lake; Cariboo RD Areas D,E,F)
There are 9 active fires in the Central Cariboo Zone. Of these fires, five are Out of Control, three are Being Held and one are Under Control.

Fires C31143, C32266, C31349, C31442 and C31684, located in the Horsefly Lake-Quesnel Lake area, are classified as Out of Control, and are being handled with a modified response.
C30399, C30572, and C30446 are located in the Horsefly Lake-Quesnel Lake area, are classified as Being Held, and are being handled with a modified response.
b) Quesnel Zone (Quesnel/Wells; Cariboo RD Areas A,B,C,I)
There are 11 active fires in the Quesnel Zone. Of these fires, five are Out of Control, three are Being Held, and three are Under Control.
C12135 - Burgess Creek
Operational Objectives
This fire is highly visible to surrounding communities and commuters on Highway 97. Crews continued to action this fire yesterday on the east and west flanks working from the south to the north and with crews on the north end working to the east. Additional resources have been assigned to this incident to continue yesterdays objectives, focusing on the east flank.

There are currently seven active fires within the Chilcotin Zone. Of these fires, four are Out of Control, one is Being Held, and two are Under Control.
C51974 - Bull Canyon Park
Operational Objectives
The status of this fire was changed from Out of Control to Being Held July 25th. The Bull Canyon Park Area Evacuation Alert was rescinded on July 26th. Highway 20 is not at risk of closing or obstruction from fire activity at this time.
Crews continue mop up and patrol with heavy equipment support on site and aerial support available as needed.

Operational Objectives
Crews conducted small planned ignitions July 26th to remove pockets of green between the fires edge and containment lines. In the evening of July 27th, air tankers actioned an excursion on the southwest side laying retardant to connect to containment lines. Heavy equipment worked into the evening to reinforce the retardant lines. Today, crews are on site continuing mop up and patrol. Small planned ignitions to remove pockets of green may continue if conditions are favourable.
