July 27th, 2023 BC Fire Risk Map & Daily Update from the Cariboo Fire Centre

 1)      Weather Update

 Cloudier conditions are expected today, with northern areas already cloudy and increasing cloudiness expected through the south. Temperatures remain steady to a bit warmer than yesterday, with driest conditions expected to be found toward 100 Mile. Winds remain light.  Isolated thundershowers will develop today in the Coast range from west to southwestern areas of the Fire Centre, with a few strikes likely hitting the northeastern corner of the Fire Centre as well. Tomorrow, isolated storms should spread to all areas, with the potential for pockets of scattered showers to develop through central to northeastern regions. Rainfall amounts look light and go up to approximately 5mm. However, locally heavy downpours are possible and some strikes, particularly tomorrow, are possible with little to no precipitation

2)      General Update from the Cariboo Fire Centre

As of July 14, 2023 the four fires that comprised the Gillies Complex are being managed by a dedicated Incident Management Team (IMT).  In addition, the 10 wildfires that comprised the Kappan Complex are being managed by a dedicated Incident Management Team (IMT)

3)      Active Wildfire Situation, by Zone

a)       Central Cariboo Zone (Williams Lake; Cariboo RD Areas D,E,F)

There are 10 active fires in the Central Cariboo Zone.  Of these fires, five are Out of Control, three are Being Held and two are Under Control.

b)      Quesnel Zone (Quesnel/Wells; Cariboo RD Areas A,B,C,I)

There are 11 active fires in the Quesnel Zone.  Of these fires, five are Out of Control, three are Being Held, and three are Under Control.

C12135 - Burgess Creek

Operational Objectives

This fire is highly visible to surrounding communities and commuters on Highway 97. Crews actioned an excursion on the south side of the fire yesterday, working from the west and east flank mopping up from the south working north and continuing those objectives today. A containment line is being constructed on the north side of the fire.

On July 26th the fire's status was changed from Out of Control to Being Held. The fire has shown no recent growth, and ground crews are actioning the fire as needed.

 There are currently seven active fires within the Chilcotin Zone.  Of these fires, four are Out of Control, one is Being Held, and two are Under Control.


C51974 - Bull Canyon Park

Operational Objectives

This fire status changed to Being Held July 25th and The Bull Canyon Park Area Evacuation Alert was rescinded July 25th.

Highway 20 is not at risk of closing or obstruction from fire activity at this time. Crews are on site mopping up and patrolling and has established containment lines.
