Two evacuation alerts remain in place in the Cariboo Regional District, impacting about 95 properties in total. The CRD’s Emergency Operations Centre is working closely with the BC Wildfire Service to evaluate these alerts daily.
The evacuation alert for the south side of Quesnel Lake remains in place due to limited access routes in the Haggen’s Point and Hen Ingram Lake areas. Residents should remain prepared but can rest assured that wildfire crews are making good progress on theHorsefly Lake wildfire (C31678).
According to the Cariboo Fire Centre, there was no significant growth on the Horsefly Lake wildfire yesterday. The wildfire is estimated at 503 hectares in size, due to updated mapping. There has been no significant growth since Tuesday evening.
Wildfire crews are continuing to build fire guards around the perimeter and extinguish spot fires. The fire was showing Rank 2 fire behaviour yesterday, with some areas of Rank 3. This means it is a surface fire with some visible, open flame. To secure the guards, crews burn fuels up to the guard, which may lead to some increased smoke and visible flames. There are 40 firefighters, 10 pieces of heavy equipment and two helicopters working on the fire today.
There are no structures threatened due to this wildfire or the other lightning-caused wildfires in the Horsefly and Quesnel Lake areas.
The Prince George Fire Centre estimates the Chutanli Lake wildfire (G41607), located about 130 km west of Quesnel, is 736 hectares in size. There are 22 firefighters, 10 industry personnel, 10 pieces of heavy equipment and two helicopters working on the fire to construct guard and create fuel free zones. The evacuation alert for the Tatelkuz Lake area remains in place due to this wildfire.

Since July 30, there have been 97 wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre, which they are prioritizing and actioning. There are 247 personnel and 13 aircraft working throughout the region. Crews are having success keeping wildfires small, with the largest fires being the Horsefly Lake fire, a wildfire in Sheep Range Park at 199 hectares, a wildfire near Cottonwood at 60 hectares, the Sodium Lake wildfire at 24 hectares, a wildfire near Quartz Mountain at 20 hectares and a wildfire south of the Itcha Mountains at 15 hectares.
