City of WL and Cariboo Regional District works on Rural Fire Protection

From the Cariboo Regional District & City of Williams Lake:

The City of Williams Lake and Cariboo Regional District (CRD) through the Central Joint Committee are working together to address options for equitable distribution of taxation for rural fire protection, co-chairs Mayor Kerry Cook and CRD Electoral Area F Director Joan Sorley announced today.

The rural areas outside the City boundaries are currently covered by three separate fire protection agreements which expire in 2012.” says Cook. “Our goal is to have equal taxation distribution for all residents served by the Williams Lake Fire Department.”

We are working together to find long-term solutions,” says Sorley. “The goal is to have a fair system for all properties that benefit from the new fire hall and the City’s fire department.”

The Central Cariboo Joint Committee will provide updates as work progresses.
